Hilbert's Burgers is a classic burger joint and has pretty good burgers and shakes. The place is old and quickly approaching dive status. It must have been here since the 50's or 60's but I am not sure because there is very little information about Hilberts on the web. The drive through is fast, there is also some seating inside at their lunch counter. I recommend Hilbert's as a good alternative to fast food if your in the area around 35th and Lamar.
I really only have one complaint and it is a personal preference but I am sure some other people will agree. The onions on the burger are sliced way to thick. Maybe they should call it the onion burger instead of hamburger. Besides that, Hilbert's shakes are really good, burgers are good, and their cokes have good ice. I'm not sure about the rest of you but the type of ice is the most important thing about a coke besides the formula to me. A couple of other menu items from Hilberts that I recommend is their fried chicken sandwich with bacon, and their homemade onion rings which I think may be the best onion rings in Austin. I sincerely hope the best for Hilberts and would like to see them fix up and preserve the old joint to restore it to it's original condition. This place should be considered an Austin tradition if it is not already, and is certainly a good hamburger restaurant to visit in Austin.
